Phi-Alpha-Psi Senate has a long and illustrious history at Montclair State University. Senate was the first fraternity on campus and was started here in 1929 by our founder an English professor named Edward Webster. When the fraternity was founded, it was more of an intellectual club that was involved in the Fine Arts of Theatre and Literature as well as being the student government leaders on campus. This is how the fraternity received the title of Senate.

Phi-Alpha-Psi stands for knowledge, goodness and spirit and while the brotherhood might fall a little short on the first two, we more than make up for it with the amount of spirit we have. It is the Spirit of Senate that has been the driving force of this fraternity for over 70 years. It is the spirit of wanting to get the most enjoyment and excitement out of living. We're sure the founding brothers, who spent their idle time discussing the great works of literature and operas, would be rolling over in their graves if they knew how things have changed. But on the same note I think they would be very proud of the spirit and pride our fraternity has carried forward to this day.
